ABSTRACT


Thie ha.ndbook was written for the observer who must fiU out Exposure
Logsheets for FOS target acqui.itiou. We summarize the different
target acquisition modes and present a flow diagram which cnn be used
to select the appropriate target acquisition according to the type of
a.stronowical object. A table ja given for ca.lculating ta.rget
acquisition exposure times, and example Logsheets and Ta.rget Lists
are included at the end of the article. The handbook also includes a
fIow diagram which shows how to flnd or derive astrometric positions
for different a.stronomical objects.
