Liniiting Magnitudes for FOS Target Acquisition

Introduction


As a. general rule, ta.rgets brighter tha.n 10.3 magnitudes should not
be acquired with standard target acquisition software because of the
possibility of daxna.ging the photocathode with high count
rates. Ta.rgets brighter than 15.3 magnitude should be acquired with
modes other than binary searcb (i.e. make-a-picture or firmware)
because of the pulse coincidence problem. These lixnits vary witb
spectral type, aa sum.marized in Table 1.
