Nota CoI_Institution: STScI Contact: N CoI_Name: W. Hack CoI_Institution: STScI Contact: N Abstract: This proposal will take a spectrum of Jupiter to provide a full-slit spectrum of an approximately solar source. Special care is needed to ensure that the disk of Jupiter does not poke out into the clear part of the aperture. Questions ! Free format text (clear and concise) Observing_Description: Jupiter will be placed so that the slit falls on the disk of the planet, but the disk does not project into the clear (slitless) aperture. An initial exposure with the F275W+F305LP (which has less redleak than F195W) will ensure that it is safe to procede with the F195W exposure. If the disk of Jupiter appears in the slitless area, a real-time move can be made to move it behind the aperture. Real_Time_Justification: It is necessary to ensure that the disk of Jupiter does not extend into the slitless area of the aperture before proceding with the F195W SPEC observations. Calibration_Justification: This program will provide key information about the wavelength scale for FOC longslit observations and provide a template for absorption-line kinematic data (e.g. King's spectrum of M31).
