These jets are characterized by symmetric, diametrically opposite, collimated flows with observable, radiative, bow-shocks around their leading edges. It is the spatial distributions of the resultant knots of ionized gas which indicate rotations of the bi-polar, episodic jets. The most spectacular candidate for this BRET classification has now been discovered (Lopez et al, 1995). A giant (~ 14' * 4' ), but faint, bipolar halo has been found to be extending from PK112-001 in which diametrically opposite pairs of collisionaly ionized knots are present. The angular extent of this bipolar structure is the largest one yet found around PNe and may indicate that it is the closest example of the phenomenon. The top priority for the proposed HST observations is to obtain imagery of the bright nebular core in the HAlpha, NII, SII and OIII nebular emission lines, and in blue and red regions free of lines, with an angular resolution of 0.1" to detect evidence of a central, collimating disk and/or a binary component to the central star. In addition, imagery of the shock ionized filaments close to the core, in the nebular emission lines, will reveal the changing ionization conditions along the collimateds flows. Questions Observing_Description: This project has been awarded 4 orbits. In Target_Number 1 (PK112-001-NUCLEUS), we place the nucleus of the PN in WF2-FIX to image the core structure and its surroundings making use of DITHERING to optimize resolution enhancement. Narrow band emission line images (F656N,F658N,F673N) that guarantee the best results will be obtained. The ORIENT parameter has been set to try to avoid potential blooming effects on the core structure. V mag. is a crude estimate from the DSS Plate. The spectrum from the core shows no apparent photospheric continuum in our spectra. The line widths are wide for they come from low dispersion data.
