The ability to observe the UV part of BALQSOs spectra is crucial for improving our knowledge of these objects. Using one of the FOC's prisms we can obtain important information about the slope of the UV continuum in BALQSOs even in the snapshot mode. Our objectives are: (a) Check whether the UV continuum of objects that show a \Ly ``ghost'' signature in their BALs, is steeply declining in the UV, and whether the opposite is also true. This is a crucial test for verifying whether radiative acceleration is the dominant acceleration mechanism in BAL outflows. (b) Check whether the UV continuum of Mg II BALQSOs shows a thick H I absorption edge at 912Angstrom\ rest wavelength. This feature is predicted by an ionization model created to explain the existence of Mg II BALs. (c) Observe the UV continuum of several high redshift BALQSOs in order to decide if their flux level are appropriate for future deep UV spectroscopy using the FOS (or the STIS after its installment). (d) Make the same observation on a significant sample of BALQSOs in order to shed light on their ionization equilibrium, and to obtain statistical information for a non- biased sample. Questions ! Free format text (please update) Observing_Description: Warren Hack from the FOC team at STScI, ran NUVOP simulations for us, which showed that our scientific goals can be achieved with a 600 s exposure using the prism for all our proposed objects. Even for the faint ghost objects for which we expect the spectra to decline very steeply we will obtain enough signal to noise down to 2300Angstrom. Therefore, with a typical 22 minutes snapshot (12 for acquisition and 10 for exposure) we will be able to obtain our scientific goals. If possible, we would like the two marked objects in Table 1 to have the longest possible snapshot exposures. vspace.1cm The limited spectral resolution of NUVOP is not an obstacle since we are only interested in the general shape of the continuum. The partial absorption of the continuum by the BALs will be handled in two ways: a) using regions of the spectrum where there are no significant BALs, for example around 850 Angstrom\ rest wavelength and b) by using the BALs templates obtained from the optical data. vspace.1cm The following tables list all our proposed objects, each table contains the objects which corresponds to one section of our scientific justification. Table 1 lists the eight objects discussed in \S 2. The three additional objects were already observed in the UV with the FOS.
