Free format text (clear and concise) The objective of this test is to determine how the the behavior of the background emission (flare) changes with the format, since a significant format dependence was indicated in Proposal 6302. We will need this information in order to advise future long-slit observers as to which format should be used for obtaining their spectra. In addition to the format dependence, the geometric distortion correction will be obtained using the reseaux marks for the formats to be used by Cycle 6 observers. Questions ! Free format text (clear and concise) Observing_Description: This proposal consists of INTFLAT and DARK images taken for the different formats used in long-slit observations. The full format 512zX1024 format will be first, just as an INT ACQ image would, followed by the 256x1024 format, then 256zX1024 and finally the 512X512 format. This will be repeated until the final observation is taken at least 4 hours after HV turn-on in order to track the behavior of the distortion and to continue monitoring the behavior of the background emission. Calibration_Justification: Since a significant changes in the behavior of the background emission was noted, we need to systematically verify this change in behavior for each format. Geometric correction is critical for reduction of long-slit spectra, and this proposal will provide the data to create initial geometric correction files for the formats to be used. Visits !
