Y or N (designate at most one contact) Abstract: We will make observations of 10 low redshift quasars to determine the nature, in particular the morphological type, of the underlying galaxies. PC observation of 1800 sec using the F720W filter should enable the luminosity profiles to be obtained to radius >10 kpc at S/N=10. High contrast structures with spatial sizes of >0.1 arcsec (such as spiral arms) should also be detected out to a similar radius. The sample includes optically selected, radio selected, X-ray selected and IR selected hosts in order to allow comparison between the hosts of each type. ! Each quasar will be observed for a total exposure time of 1800 sec though the F702W filter. The exposures will be split as follows: firstly there will be an exposure of total length 1200sec (this will be automatically split into two 600sec exposures for cosmic ray removal); secondly there will be an exposure of total length 600 sec (this will be split into one exposure of 500sec and one of 100sec). The 100sec exposure is needed to obtain an unsaturated image of the quasar cores. The Gain of the PC will be set to 15 in order to reduce the effects of saturation. The total spacecraft time required for each quasar will be about 52 minutes, enabling each quasar to be observed in one orbit. In total the project requires 10 orbits in Cycle 5. Fixed_Targets !
