Free format text (clear and concise) The quasars PG1001+054 and PG1404+226 will be observed with the FOS to measure the continuum energy distribution, the emission line intensity, and line profiles of these two quasars with exceptionally large values of alpha_ox, the optical to x-ray flux ratio If the x-ray emission in quasars influences their UV/optical spectra - as is expected, for example, in the re-radiation models -then we expect the spectral properties of these two quasars to differ from those of other quasars with normal values of alpha_ox.
