MARGON CoI_Institution: UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON Questions Observing_Description: The observation will begin with a two stage target acquisition (binary search and peakup) designed to center the object to 0.08" accuracy. This accuracy is required because the signal-to-noise of the spectrum calls for moderately accurate flat fielding. Following this a 2860 second observation with the G270H grating and 0.5" aperture will be performed. Accurate wavelength calibration is not required because several strong interstellar lines will be present in the spectrum. Abstract: This proposal contains observations which will help to complete an FOS IDT scientific program. This data set will yield high quality absorption line data for studies of the damped Lyman alpha absorption system at z=1.0 and the Lyman alpha forest lines for an independent sample for studies of absorption line evolution.
