Voit CoI_Institution: STScI Contact: N Abstract: This proposal will take spectra of a spectrophotometric standard star. Care will be taken to ensure that the star is correctly placed in the center of the spectrograph slit. A second position along the slit will also be taken, allowing some measurement of spatial dependence of the sensitivity, and allowing tracing the distortion pattern at two positions on the slit. This will also provide a more refined position for the slit location, and will give the angle the slit makes with the V2V3 axes. Questions ! Free format text (clear and concise) Observing_Description: A standard Mode I target acquisition image will be taken, followed by an uplink of the small angle maneuver to place the star on the fiducial point. A second image will examine the accuracy of the slew. The second and third orbit will consist of 10 scan positions, moving the star perpendicular to the slit direction in steps of 0.02". From analysis of the 10 scans, we can determine the center of the slit to better than 0.01 arcsecond. A fourth orbit will be used to take spectra in first and second orders, while a fifth orbit will give the third and fourth orders. Finally, the star will be moved to a position 3 arcseconds along the slit, a 5 point scan performed and a further 2 orbits used to get the spectrum in all 4 orders. Real_Time_Justification: Real-time contacts are essential to position the star exactly on the slit. Calibration_Justification: This program will provide key information on the geometric distortion in the spatial direction, the absolute sensitivity in all 4 orders, and the position of the slit and the angle it makes with the V2V3 axes.
