Jedrzejewski PI_Institution: STSCI CoI_Name: A. Nota CoI_Institution: STSCI Contact: N Abstract: ! Free format text (clear and concise) This proposal will image a UV standard star in the f/96 relay in order to monitor the UV throughput of the COSTAR+FOC combination. Data will be taken 3 times during the cycle. Questions ! Free format text (clear and concise) Observing_Description: A mode I target acquisition will be used to position the UV standard in the center of the F/96 256X256 aperture. A series of 4 observations will then be performed using different FOC UV filters. Real_Time_Justification: An INT ACQ is required in order to acquire the star in the smallest format. This format is necessary in order to obtain the highest S/N observations in the shortest time. Calibration_Justification: This proposal will insure that the UV throughput remains well understood. We expect to collect 10000 - 20000 counts/star within an aperture radius of 0.2 arcsec, which should give us a measurement error of approximately 2% (1-sigma). A 5% drop over the year would then be detectable with good significance. We expect any degradation to be worst in the ultraviolet, so we have included the F120M and F140M filters to monitor those wavelengths. The F175W and F253M exposures give additional monitor points. There is no deliverable as such, because we do not have sufficient wavelength sampling to allow us to measure the DQE curve over the full wavelength range of the FOC, but we will be able to warn affected observers of a potential problem in the absolute sensitivity calibration of their data.
