Free format text (please update) No direct determinations of masses for stars of the halo population currently exist. A number of halo spectroscopic binaries have recently been identified, and the system HD20039 appears to be resolvable with the HST. TRANSfer mode observations with the FGS will be used to obtain separations, position angles and magnitude differences at six orbital phases. When these data are combined with the spectroscopic elements, the orbit can be completely specified and the masses of the components determined. Questions ! Free format text (please update) Observing_Description: The target will be observed six times: at the predicted time of velocity maximum and minimum and at an orbital phase 0.1 cycles before and after the extrema times. Each observation will consist of two separate sets of 21 TRANS-mode scans of the target (1260 seconds total observation time). This will ensure an excellent S/N for each set and also, by intercomparing the results from the two sets, allow the uncertainties in the derived parameters for an epoch to be determined. All observations will be at the same location in the ``pickle.'' Each observation will require a single orbit. We have not requested observations of the single star Upgren-69 that is used to calibrate the S-curves upon which the data reduction depend. We assume that this object will continue to be regularly observed by the Astrometry Science Team as part of the Institute's FGS calibration programs. Real_Time_Justification: These are time-critical observations. They are to be carried out at the specified orbital phases +/-0.03 as predicted by the ephemeris. The permitted deviation from optimal phase gives a window for each observation of one week. Calibration_Justification: !
