Free format text (please update) Antares is the only red supergiant - B star binary where both the red giant wind and the HII region of the B star within the wind can be resolved in the sky, while it is simultaneously possible to determine an accurate mass-loss rate from scattering of B star UV photons in the red giant wind in resonance lines of at least a dozen ions. Earlier attempts using IUE suffered severely from blending of all O eV lines with IS lines. Here we propose to observe 30 selected wavelength regions in the UV, which cover ~ 50 CS lines with the GHRS Echelle of Alpha Sco B with the aim (1) to separate CS P Cyg type lines formed in the wind of Alpha Sco A from IS lines, (2) to determine an accurate M supergiant mass-loss rate by analyzing lines from a dozen ions using the most advanced radiation transfer techniques, (3) to determine a possibly existing depletion pattern in the CS gas phase due to dust condensation, and finally (4) to compare this depletion pattern with that obtained from the IS lines in the same spectrum. Questions ! Free format text (please update) Observing_Description: We want to observe 30 selected wavelength regions with the GHRS Echelle A & B with the LSA. The selected windows are center wavelength = 1199 Angstroem ( SII, NI), 1240 (MgII), 1252 (SII), 1260 (SII,SiII,FeII), 1266 (FeII9, SII), 1275 (FeII9, CI), 1306 (SiII, OI), 1317 (NiII), 1335 (CII), 1359 (CuII), 1370 (NiII), 1393 (NiII), 1467 (NiII), 1526 (SiII), 1533 (SiII), 1550 (FeII), 1561 (FeII), 1565 (FeII), 1583 (FeII), 1610.5 (FeII), 1620 (FeII), 1670 (AlII), 1786.7 (FeII), 1808 (SiII), 1858 (AlIII), 2025.5 (ZnII, MgI), 2062 (ZnII, CrII), 2599.7 (FeII), 2616 (FeII), 3073 (TiII) With typical fluxes of 7 10 E-10 erg/(cm*cm)/s/Angstroem at 1250 Angstroem, 3 10 E-10 at 1700 and 10 E-10 at 2600, the typical exposure time is 2 minutes (1 to 4 minutes) for most wavelength regions to reach a S/N = 100. 30 wavelength windows require thus about 2 orbits each for Ech-A and Ech-B (visibility 52 min., 7x(2 min + 4 min OH)). One additional orbit will be necessary for TA of this extremely bright object into the LSA (Attenuated A 2 + Peakup) and for an IMAGE. Alpha Sco B has to be centered well into the LSA and an GHRS IMAGE has to be taken after TA in order to verify the exact position of the star in the aperture. This is essential in order to be able to model the line scattering problem correctly since the scattering CS envelope is extendend in the sky! Fixed_Targets !
