Free format text (please update) We propose to use archival data from the Faint Object Spectrograph to make a comparative study of the UV spectral energy distribution (SED) of the different kinds of AGN -- QSO's, Seyfert 1's, Seyfert 2's and LINER's -- and between the AGN's and the Starbursts. We plan to measure line fluxes and UV slopes, in order to obtain physical parameters and gas chemical abundances, as well as to study the effects of the reddening on the SED. Our goal is to make a parallel between the characteristics of the Starbursts and AGN to address possible connections and also to compare the SED of the Seyfert 1's with those of Seyfert 2's and study the implications for the Unified Models.
