The observations and reductions form a set of line_4: calibrations which must be performed in order for routine line_5: astrometric observations to be reduced at the milliarcsecond line_6: level. Because the nature of the long and short spatial line_7: frequencies is predicted from pre-launch measurements, but line_8: because the final in-orbit values are not known, a sufficient line_9: number of stars with selected relative positions must be line_10: chosen to adequately cover the distortions expected yet line_11: give a sample of other spatial frequencies which may occur. line_13: The requirement of an adequate number of stars between 9th line_14: and 14th magnitudes, and consideration of sun-angle roll line_15: constraints, have led to the choice of M35 as the observation line_16: field.
