LINE_1: The problem of calibrating the FGSs for astrometric work involves 
LINE_2: two complementary aspects; the plate scale and the optical distortions. 
LINE_3: The latter are dealt with in the Optical Field Angle Distortion cali-
LINE_4: brations. The former are dealt with in three different calibration 
LINE_5: proposals depending on the scale-length desired. To complete the OFAD 
LINE_6: calibration effort the execution of this proposal is required to 
LINE_7: determine the plate scale in the large. It rests on a set of stars 
LINE_8: included in the ESA Astrometry satellite HIPPARCOS's observing list.
