The 40S picture showed without a doubt the line_5: superiority of Hubble over groundbased telescopes. A few days line_6: later, there was a press conference based on this picture line_7: of R136a, and the first ERO program was started in ernest. line_8: We now propose to repeat the imagery of R136a with WFPCs. line_9: The July 1990 picture was a 40S image taken with PC6 at F368M. line_10: This time, we will take a series of 3 pictures (5S, 10S, and line_11: 20S) pictures with PC1 at F336W. We will compare the new line_12: with: (1) the original July 1990 picture; line_13: (2) "deep" PC exposures that were the basis of study by line_14: Campbell et al. (1992), and Malumuth & Heap (1993). line_15: (3) the predicted field, as shown by Heap in an April line_16: press release and by Heap & Malumuth (1992). line_17: These pictures are also essential as "early acquisition" line_18: pictures for the GHRS ERO program on R136a. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: HEAP fname: SARA mi: R. inst: NASA, GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: This program will take three short exposures line_2: (5S, 10S, 20S) of R136a with PC1 at F336W. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: This program is in some sense an early acquisition line_2: for the GHRS ERO program on R136a. The PC1 pictures should line_3: be taken BEFORE the GHRS spectra. (This should not be hard line_4: to do, since the GHRS ERO program uses Side 1, which must line_5: first be recommissioned.) ! question: 6 section: 1 line_1: NONE ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: The data need to be processed as well as possible, with line_2: whatever bias, flat, and dark frames are available at the line_3: time. We will work with the ST ScI and WFPC2 team to reduce line_4: the images. After reduction, we will make a comparison with line_5: (1) the original 40S F368M image, and the (2) the original line_6: ERO F336W images of R136a. We will also make a comparison to line_7: simulations of the field as seen by PC1, based on photometry line_8: of WFPC images of R136a. ! question: 8 section: 1 line_1: ! question: 9 section: 1 line_1: ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: GSFC will provide the financial resources line_2: and computer resources for the data analysis. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: HEAP fname: SARA mi: R category: PI inst: GODDARD SPACE FLIGH CENTER city: GREENBELT state: MD country: USA phone: 301-286-5359 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: R136 descr_1: D,203 pos_1: RA = 05H 38M 42.50S +/- 0.15S, pos_2: DEC=-69D 06' 02.8" +/- 0.5" equinox: J2000 comment_1: #1 IS THE U MAGNITUDE OF R136A1, comment_2: THE BRIGHTEST STAR IN R136 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: U=12.09 fluxnum_2: 1 fluxval_2: B-V=-.24 ! ! end of fixed targets !
