The majority of libraries already existing contains spectra of line_4: hot stars with chemical abundances close to solar. The high spectral line_5: resolution achieves with the FOS will be a major factor for the line_6: uniqueness of this new library. UV spectral libraries represent line_7: fundamental tools for the study of the massive star populations of young line_8: star-forming regions. Massive stars, which are impossible to identify line_9: directly in the optical-IR part of a composite spectrum, display on the line_10: other hand key signatures in the UV region. These signatures are mainly line_11: broad, metallicity dependent spectral features formed in the hot star line_12: winds. They require a high spectral resolution (of the order of 200-300 line_13: km/s) for an adequate study. A spectral library of metal-poor massive line_14: stars represents also a unique source of data for a stellar atmosphere line_15: analysis. Within less then 10 min we will obtain a high signal-to-noise line_16: ratio of at least 30. Finally, since short exposure times are possible, line_17: this proposal makes extremely good use of the capabilities of HST. All observations will be done on the blue side of the line_3: FOS. line_5: The 4.3" (actually 3.7" with COSTAR) aperture will be used for all line_6: observations. We believe that a snapshot survey of hot stars in the line_16: Magellanic Clouds is by far preferable than a dedicated GO study of line_17: individual LMC and SMC objects. As shown in the previous section our line_18: program has a minimum of overhead with very small compromise for the line_19: requested science.
