These observations will (1) demonstrate line_6: that the GHRS' imaging capabilites have been recovered line_7: by COSTAR, and (2) provide the first high-resolution line_8: optical map of the nucleus/inner host galaxy of a line_9: quasar. THIS IS PART OF HEAP'S CYCLE-4 GTO PROGRAM. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: HEAP fname: SARA inst: NASA/GSFC country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 2 section: 1 line_1: QSO 2130+099 is a nearby QSO with z=0.061 and V=14.4. Our line_2: recent studies of this object including image-deconvolution line_3: suggest that the host is a barred spiral with a central line_4: surface brightness, mu(B)=21.3 mag per sq. arcsec and a scale line_5: length of 4 kpc. Observing the inner region of this or any line_6: QSO poses two severe observational challenges: (1) high line_7: spatial resolution, and (2) high dynamic range. (The FOC line_8: coronograph won't work for this problem because it blots line_9: out the inner 0.5"?) The GHRS is the ONLY instrument on HST line_10: that can obtain direct images of the inner host galaxy. We line_11: therefore will use this unique capability to obtain UV maps line_12: of the nucleus/inner host galaxy with the GHRS. ! question: 3 section: 1 line_1: line_2: Schedule the GHRS observations in dark time, so that line_3: geocoronal Ly alpha emission doesn't swamp the target. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: Only the HST can give the required angular resolution line_2: and UV throughput. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: Lines 20-22 call for GHRS field maps that are not standard. line_2: The GHRS field maps should carried out during periods line_3: when there is NO JITTER. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: Reduction and analysis of the data will be done at GSFC. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: HEAP fname: SARA category: PI inst: NASA/GSFC addr_1: CODE 681 city: GREENBELT, state: MD zip: 20771 country: USA phone: (301)-286-9545 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: QSO2130+099-NUCLEUS name_2: II-ZW-136 descr_1: E, 313,321,910,928 pos_1: RA=21H32M27.91S+/-0.75", pos_2: DEC=10D08'20.2"+/-0.75", pos_3: PLATE-ID=02KW equinox: 2000 pm_or_par: NO rv_or_z: Z=0.061 comment_1: POSITION DETERMINED FROM GSSS. fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V=14.4+/-0.2 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: F-LINE(1216)=2.6E-12 ! ! end of fixed targets !
