line_13: the narrow band exposure will be read with a gain of 7 electrons/adu. question: 4 section: 1 line_1: these fields are extremely dense; the restored resolution of hst is line_2: essential to allow us to examine their structure on parsec scale and to line_3: allow us to form colour-magnitude diagrams of the brightest stars. line_4: line_5: we require s/n of 100 in the broad band filters -- for hot stars in the line_6: uv filters and cool supergiants in the red filters -- to allow accurate line_7: psf fitting photometry. ngc253 is moderately inclined, and so we will line_8: go deeper by a factor of 2 line_9: line_10: to avoid possible saturation from dense stellar clusters, the exposures line_11: need to be shorter than 150s, 150s, 30s, and 100s in the four bands; we line_12: shall take two short and two long exposures. line_13: line_14: to image ngc253 in h-alpha, we require a s/n of approximately 10 as we line_15: aim mainly to explore its structure and morphology. from ground-based line_16: long-slit observations, we have calculated that we will achieve a s/n line_17: of about 6 in two 1800s exposures, assuming that the emission is not line_18: clumped; we fully expect the emission will be clumped, and that in the line_19: clumps s/n will exceed 6. we will achieve a suitably high s/n in line_20: off-band r after 75s of exposure. the heliocentric velocity of ngc253 line_21: is only 249 km/s, so a redshifted h-alpha filter will not be required. question: 13 section: 1 line_1: this proposal forms an important part of the `star formation in line_2: galaxies' section of the wfpc-2 gto program. general_form_address: lname: trauger fname: john category: pi inst: 2370 country: usa fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: ngc253 descr_1: e,301,318,910 pos_1: ra = 00h 47m 33.1s +/- 1" , pos_2: dec = -25d 17' 18" +/- 1" equinox: 2000 rv_or_z: v = +249 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: surf(v) = 18.9 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: b-v = 1.26 targnum: 2 name_1: ngc2903 descr_1: e,301,318,910 pos_1: ra = 09h 32m 09.7s +/- 1" , pos_2: dec = +21d 30' 02" +/- 1" equinox: 2000 rv_or_z: v = +554 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: surf(v) = 17.9 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: b-v = 0.66 targnum: 3 name_1: ngc4736 descr_1: e,301,318,910 pos_1: ra = 12h 50m 53.6s +/- 1" , pos_2: dec = +41d 07' 10" +/- 1" equinox: 2000 rv_or_z: v = +307 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: surf(v) = 15.4 +/- 1.0 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: b-v = 0.90 exposure_logsheet: linenum: 1 sequence_1: define sequence_2: pc-7 targname: # config: wfpc2 opmode: image aperture: pc1-fix sp_element: # num_exp: # time_per_exp: 1s priority: 1 param_1: cr-split = 0.6 param_2: cr-tolerance=0.2 param_3: atd-gain = 7 linenum: 2 sequence_1: define sequence_2: pc-15 targname: # config: wfpc2 opmode: image aperture: pc1-fix sp_element: # num_exp: # time_per_exp: 1s priority: 1 param_1: cr-split = no param_2: atd-gain = 15 linenum: 3 sequence_1: use sequence_2: pc-15 targname: ngc253 sp_element: f336w num_exp: 2 time_per_exp: x10 req_1: cycle 4 / 3-8 ;
