In addition, work on extragalactic H~II line_6: regions serves as a cornerstone to the study of the structure and line_7: evolution of galaxies. Diagnostic line ratios and fluxes are important line_8: for understanding star formation, and provide a unique look at the line_9: chemical composition, energetics, and structure of the star formation line_10: environment as a function of position within a galaxy. Ionizing line_11: radiation leaking from H~II regions is also the most plausible source line_12: of ionization for the ubiquitous warm diffuse phase of the ISM. In this line_13: program we will use the high spatial resolution of the HST to line_14: investigate the structure and stellar content of both inner and outer line_15: disk H~II regions in the giant spiral M~101. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: TRAUGER fname: JOHN title: PI inst: 2370 country: USA esa: N ! lname: BURROWS fname: CHRIS inst: STSCI country: USA ! lname: CLARKE fname: JOHN inst: UNIV. Due to the line_5: asymmetrical shape of the FOV of the WFPC-2, this line_6: requirement results in constraints on the orientation. line_7: For M101-OUTER, two pointings are provided, each with line_8: its own orientation constraint.
