abstract:

    line_1:        The Crab Nebula represents a unique opportunity to investigate a range
    line_2:        of questions and processes such as the chemical composition of SN
    line_3:        ejecta, the evolution of young SNRs, power law photoionization, dust
    line_4:        formation in energetic environments, and the interaction of thermal and
    line_5:        relativistic plasmas.  We will use the high spatial resolution of the
    line_6:        HST to study the ionization structure of filaments in the Crab - an
    line_7:        investigation which is fundamental to all of the above questions.

    line_4:        excitation states.  Continuum observations will be
    line_5:        obtained to allow continuum subtraction of the line
