    line_1:        Several late-type stars will be observed with the FOS UV
    line_2:        gratings.  The FOS observations will be compared with HRS
    line_3:        Side 1 observations of the same stars made during Cycle 1 and SV.
    line_4:        Since HRS Side 1 is insensitive to wavelengths longward of
    line_5:        approximately 2000 A., any additional light detected in the
    line_6:        FOS observations is attributable to longer-wavelength continuum

    line_1:        The calibrations are needed to assess the impact of scattered
    line_2:        longer-than-3000 A. continuum light on FOS observations of
    line_3:        weak UV sources.

    line_2:        Observations of the solar-type star 16 Cyg B with FOS/BL G130H, G190H, and
    line_3:        G270H and FOS/RD G190H and G270H will be particularly useful in assessing
    line_4:        scattered-light contamination in FOS UV observations of solar system
    line_5:        targets.  However, the scattering contamination in FOS UV observations
    line_6:        of other classes of objects that contain late-type spectra
    line_7:        (e.g., ellipticals) is also important.
    line_8:        We will also observe two additional later-type spectra,
    line_9:        specifically Gamma Draconis (spectral type K4III) as for 16 Cyg B
    line_10:       and G130H and G190H observations of Alpha Orionis (spectral type
    line_11:       M2I); all 3 stars have been observed with the "solar-blind" HRS
    line_12:       Side 1.
    line_13:       Since HRS Side 1 is insensitive to wavelengths longward of
    line_14:       approximately 2000 A., any additional light detected in the
    line_15:       FOS observations is attributable to longer-wavelength continuum
    line_16:       light scattered off the FOS gratings.  An attempt will be
    line_17:       made to calibrate the detected scattered light with the
    line_18:       visible color of the object.  One of the objects, 16 Cyg B
    line_19:       will be observed throughout the visible with FOS/BL to
    line_20:       provide a direct instrumental comparison between total detected
    line_21:       long-wavelength counts and scattered long-wavelength counts.
