The aim is to determine a faint line_3: color-magnitude array, as well as a faint luminosity function and line_4: the relative density distribution of faint stars of different line_5: magnitudes. This program should go very much fainter than 3218, line_6: since in addition to the COSTAR gain the former 3ND can be removed. line_7: (The ND were needed in order to avoid saturation due to the diffuse line_8: light of the overlapping spherical-aberration halos.) line_9: Short ND exposures will be taken, in order to get the brighter stars line_10: without saturation. A short F275W exposure will be taken, to line_11: lengthen the color baseline for the X-ray source, which becomes line_12: prominent in the UV. If an INT ACQ is needed, it will be taken line_13: through F342W, so as further to increase the color information. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: KING fname: IVAN title: PROF. mi: R. inst: U. The two bands can be used to line_3: synthesize a 2-color picture (feeding the intermediate-color gun line_4: with the mean of the two). A fifth orbit is used to get 3 short line_5: exposures: 10-min F430W and F480LP to get the brighter stars that line_6: were saturated on the long exposures, and an F275W to broaden the line_7: color baseline for the X-ray source. (Going shorter would show line_8: nothing but the X-ray source.) In case it is needed, an INT ACQ is line_9: put in at the beginning; it is done with F342W and will increase the line_10: scientific information. ! question: 9 section: 1 line_1: Proposal 3218 took this field (and 2 others) in NGC 6624 in F430W line_2: and F480LP, in each case with 3ND. Photometry is complete, and line_3: color-magnitude diagrams were presented at an AAS meeting. In 3218 line_4: there was also an F140W image, which discovered the optical line_5: counterpart of the X-ray source (ApJ Letters, in press). This star line_6: was easily seen in F430W but was invisible in F480LP. It will now line_7: be visible in both bands. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: SPARKS fname: WILLIAM category: PI inst: STSCI addr_1: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE city: BALTIMORE country: USA phone: 338-4843 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: NGC6624 descr_1: 201 pos_1: RA = 18H 20M 27.9S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC = -30D 23' 15" +/-1" equinox: 1950 ! ! end of fixed targets !
