abstract:

    line_1:        The aim of this proposal is to determine the wavelength response
    line_2:        of f/96 wide-band filters following the discovery that some
    line_3:        of the most widely used have larger red-leaks than expected.
    line_4:        Furthermore, a long-pass filter apparently has transmission
    line_5:        problems and this will help determine the nature of the
    line_6:        problem. The calibration will be accomplished using objective
    line_7:        prism observations of spectrophotometric standard stars.

    line_1:        Important characteristics of the objective prisms are the dimensions and
    line_2:        displacements of the dispersed images on the FOC detectors. The following
    line_3:        table lists the anticipated lengths and average offsets:

    line_7:        NUV/96 lambda 1850-lambda 6000 9.7 arcsec 2.2 arcsec
    line_9:        The objective prism modes of f/96 camera will be used in rather different
    line_10:       fashion. In f/96 the prisms will primarily be used as low-dispersion
    line_11:       spectrographs. Hence for each of these modes we intend to define a "standard"
    line_12:       wavelength and photometrically calibrated position in the central 512x512
    line_13:       format using the mean offsets listed above. A suitable target for wavelength
    line_14:       calibration is the star HZ 4. An exposure of this object in each
    line_15:       of the "standard" positions should suffice. These
    line_16:       exposures will also provide information on the filter red-leaks.
