The line_7: planet will rotate under the HST aperture as the spectra are acquired. line_8: The resultant spectrum will represent the zonal average spectrum at that line_9: latitude, at nearly unit local air mass. The spectrum will be analyzed line_10: for compositional information and vertical structure, using CO and C2H2 line_11: as probes. At these wavelengths, NH3 will not be important. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: CALDWELL fname: JOHN mi: J. inst: YORK UNIVERSITY country: CANADA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: The acquisition will be by blind pointing at the center of Jupiter line_2: The actual target is therefore about -2.8 deg (South), which is the line_3: sub-Earth latitude, where Jupiter is nearly zonally uniform. Recent line_4: (March/93) activity in the SEB is to the south, and the well known line_5: stratospheric plumes are northward. Planetary motion and parallax line_6: will be tracked during the spectroscopic exposures, but there will line_7: be NO tracking of planetary rotation. Jupiter will rotate under the line_8: the aperture as the data are taken. The result will be a zonally- line_9: averaged spectrum from 147 to 178 nm, at nearly unit local air mass. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: The HST is required for access to the ultraviolet. IUE data line_2: are insufficient to obtain the desired spectral information. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: IUE spectra provide good estimates of exposure times. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: HST spectra will be divided by published solar rocket spectra, line_2: to construct an albedo spectrum, which will be analyzed for line_3: abundance and vertical distribution information on various line_4: minor and trace species in the atmosphere of Jupiter. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: CALDWELL fname: JOHN mi: J. title: DR. category: PI inst: YORK UNIVERSITY addr_1: PHYSICS DEPARTMENT addr_2: 4700 KEELE ST city: NORTH YORK state: ON zip: M3J 1P3 country: CANADA ! ! end of general_form_address records !
