These line_4: images should be made with the first generation PC. This line_5: proposal uses the balance of the GTO Augmentation time granted line_6: to the Eta Carinae project. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: EBBETS fname: DENNIS inst: BALL AEROSPACE CORPORATION country: USA ! lname: MALUMUTH fname: ELIOT inst: COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION country: USA ! lname: WALBORN fname: NOLAN inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! lname: DAVIDSON fname: KRIS inst: UNIV OF MINNESOTA country: USA ! lname: WHITE fname: RICK inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: Line 100 PC image with F658N filter, with Eta Carinae line_2: positioned and oriented to place all of the outer conden- line_3: sations in the field of view. The bright core is positioned line_4: near the edge of PC6 to prevent any blooming from spoiling line_5: more than a small local region of the entire image. The line_6: orientation will prevent any of the condensations from being line_7: split between two chips. line_8: Line 110 PC image with same position and orientation as line line_9: 100, but with filter F675W to allow detection of fainter line_10: astrometric reference stars, fainter knots of ejecta and line_11: subtle structures barely visible in our cycle 0 images. line_12: Line 120 K SPOT calibration images to allow proper alignment line_13: of the four PC fames. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: Spatial resolution needed to study inner core and small line_2: scale structures in Homunculus, and to measure displacements line_3: and proper motions of outwardly moving ejecta. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: Orientation requested for PC images will allow all of the line_2: condensations to be detected in the PC field of view without line_3: being spoiled by blooming from the central object or split line_4: between two chips. The specified orientation is highly line_5: desireable. However, if it is not possible to schedule the line_6: exposures during cycle 3, the orientation requirement may line_7: be waived. line_8: We request that these exposures be made with the existing PC I line_9: prior to its removal during the service mission. A separate line_10: proposal has been submitted which defines similar exposures line_11: to be made with the PC camera of the WFPC II. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: The individual images will be flat-fielded, registered and line_2: combined to eliminate cosmic ray hits, bad columns and pixels, line_3: and other cosmetic defects. The KSPOT frames will be used to line_4: align and join the four PC chips. The stars visible on the line_5: wider filter frames will be used to establish the astrometric line_6: reference grid. The primary objective is to establish a line_7: baseline for long term monitoring of the proper motions of line_8: the ejecta. Other objectives are to characterize the number and line_9: size distribution of the individual knots, and to search for line_10: fainter and more distant ejecta. ! question: 9 section: 1 line_1: An early set of WFC and PC images were obtained in cycle 0 line_2: as part of GTO proposal 1186. Our preliminary analyses were line_3: described in the proceedings of the STScI workshop on mass loss, line_4: and in a poster paper at the Atlanta AAS meeting in January, line_5: 1992. Further results on the motions of the North Condensation line_6: were presented at the Madison ASP conference in June, 1992, line_7: and at the HST workshop in Sardinia in July, 1992. ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: Travel support, computer facilities, publication expenses ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: EBBETS fname: DENNIS title: DR. category: PI inst: BALL AEROSPACE SYSTEMS GROUP addr_1: HRS PROJECT AR-1 addr_2: P.O.
