The nebula contains the fossil record of the line_4: previous outbursts of this massive star, which is the line_5: extragalactic analog of the Galactic LBV AG Carinae. line_6: We will study the abundance of nitrogen, the primary nuclear line_7: product of this advanced stage of massive star evolution, line_8: and determine the density and velocity conditions in the line_9: nebula. The R127 circumstellar environment provides a line_10: view of the process by which massive stars interact with the line_11: interstellar medium and mix nucleosynthetic products into the line_12: surrounding gas. We will also determine the dust properties line_13: in the circumstellar shell by comparing a contemporaneous line_14: UV spectrum of the central star with the reflected spectrum line_15: in the shell. This technique has been used previously for line_16: AG Car. The shell is an IRAS source and we will be able to line_17: compute the dust heating directly by observing the stellar line_18: continuum. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: SHORE fname: STEVEN title: PI mi: N inst: GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER country: USA ! lname: NOTA fname: ANTONELLA inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA esa: Y ! lname: CLAMPIN fname: MARK inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! lname: ALTNER fname: BRUCE inst: GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: We intend to use the GHRS to observe the R127 nebula in 1 line_2: pre-determined position chosen based on the groundbased imaging. line_3: We will use the G160M grating to observe N III]1750 in order line_4: to obtain both the nitrogen abundance and the electron density line_5: diagnostics from the N III fine structure lines. line_6: We will also observe the central star to be able line_7: to remove any stellar contamination from the nebular line_8: data.
