abstract:

    line_1:        This proposal should result in the fold mirrors alignment
    line_2:        moves.  The images will appear symmetrical and should be
    line_3:        close to focus in all four cameras.  It'll possibly correct
    line_4:        any position of the pick-off mirror if needed and provide
    line_5:        an aperture location update for the PDB.  It'll also
    line_6:        provide initial verification of AFM stability and operation
    line_7:        over periods of several orbits.

    line_1:        The repeated image of a fairly crowded and bright field in
    line_2:        WFALL takes 5 seconds in F555W.  There are mV=14-15 stars
    line_3:        near the center of all chips (about 12 total in the field.)
    line_4:        These stars are exposed to predicted half to full well with
    line_5:        gain 15 e/DN.  This basic exposure is then taken repeatedly
    line_6:        with the fold mirrors moved in a outward spiralling 4x4 pattern
    line_7:        centered at the position determined by proposal 4270 (WFPC2
    line_8:        Coarse Focus/ WFII-ALI-02).  The center position itself is
    line_9:        is taken twice - once at the beginning and once at the end of
    line_10:       the sequence.  The scan steps are each about 48 arcsec
    line_11:       corresponding to about 61 command voltage steps, and to a
    line_12:       1.1% pupil shear of 1/12.7 waves rms coma, giving a total
    line_13:       coverage of +/- 72 voltage steps from the starting point.  The
    line_14:       time for each set of mirror adjustments can be kept to under
    line_15:       6 minutes when the commanding is interleaved (a single
    line_16:       adjustment takes 5 min 19 sec).  The first four sets of
    line_17:       positions, together with the central position are repeated
    line_18:       at the end with a different set of guide stars thus providing
    line_19:       the best coverage in the central region and protecting against
    line_20:       an initial attitude update problem (or guide star acquisition
    line_21:       failure), for example.  This repeat can be scheduled a day
    line_22:       or sl later in case the tape recorder is filled by the first
    line_23:       set of exposures.  Two targets are used from proposal 4333 (WFPC2
