Although line_3: it is possible to estimate the count rates that will be observed from published line_4: data and current throughput paramters for the FOC, there is some uncertainty in line_5: the expected count rates. Since these flat field observing programs are quite line_6: time consuming, it would be prudent to make quick checks of the actual count line_7: rates with short test exposures. This proposal does that by observing the areas line_8: of the Orion Nebula that we expect to use with the filters that will be used. line_9: The count rate checks will all be taken with smaller formats than the intended line_10: future flat fields so that more accurate count rates can be measured if they line_11: are higher than expected. Each area observed will have one short full format line_12: exposure taken if it has not been observed in the past to see if there are line_13: stars or other features that may pose problems for future proposals. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: PARESCE fname: FRANCESCO title: DR. inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: The goals of this proposal are to measure count rates for potential line_2: target positions in the Orion Nebula for future flat field measurements, line_3: and to make sure there are no structures or sources that would render line_4: that area useless for that purpose. This requires two exposures for line_5: each observed area. One exposure is used to measure an accurate count line_6: rate, which is accomplished by using a 256x256 format which results in line_7: a much larger dynamic range. The other exposure is a full-format line_8: 512x1024 zoomed pixel exposure to see what is in the field of view. line_9: Four fields will be observed for the F140W filter for the F/48 relay, line_10: each offset by approximately the width of the field of view, i.e. 40" line_11: in the north-south direction which is approximately the direction of line_12: greatest change in the UV surface brightness. The F/96 relay will line_13: observe the same region that will be used for the cycle 2 F/96 F140W line_14: flat field in the 512x512 format, this time using the F210M filter. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: PARESCE fname: FRANCESCO title: DR. category: PI inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE addr_1: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE city: BALTIMORE state: MD zip: 21218 country: USA phone: 301-338-4823 telex: 684-9101-STSCI ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: FFT7 name_2: NGC1976 descr_1: G,503,J,705 pos_1: RA=5H 35M 21.2S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC=-5D 20' 27.0" +/- 0.5" equinox: 2000 ! targnum: 2 name_1: FFT7-A name_2: NGC1976 descr_1: G,503,J,705 pos_1: XI-OFF=0" +/- 0.1", pos_2: ETA-OFF=0" +/- 0.1", pos_3: FROM 1 equinox: 2000 ! targnum: 3 name_1: FFT7-B name_2: NGC1976 descr_1: G,503,J,705 pos_1: XI-OFF=0" +/- 0.1", pos_2: ETA-OFF=40" +/- 0.1", pos_3: FROM 1 equinox: 2000 ! targnum: 4 name_1: FFT7-C name_2: NGC1976 descr_1: G,503,J,705 pos_1: XI-OFF=0" +/- 0.1", pos_2: ETA-OFF=80" +/- 0.1", pos_3: FROM 1 equinox: 2000 ! targnum: 5 name_1: FFT7-D name_2: NGC1976 descr_1: G,503,J,705 pos_1: XI-OFF=0" +/- 0.1", pos_2: ETA-OFF=120" +/- 0.1", pos_3: FROM 1 equinox: 2000 ! targnum: 6 name_1: FFT8 name_2: NGC1976 descr_1: G,503,J,705 pos_1: RA=5H 35M 21.2S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC=-5D 21' 24.0" +/- 0.5" equinox: 2000 ! ! end of fixed targets !
