Line profiles and radial velocities will be line_6: used to investigate broadening mechanisms such as turbulence, gas flows, and line_7: rotation. Small aperture spectra of the nucleus will be used to look for a line_8: photoionizing continuum and for line broadening in the nucleus, and will be line_9: used to establish physical conditions and dynamics of the nuclear gas. UV line_10: absorption lines will be searched for in the nuclear continuum in order to line_11: measure the amount and distribution of gas along the line-of-sight through the line_12: parent galaxy. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: BEAVER fname: EDWARD inst: UC, SAN DIEGO country: USA ! lname: BURBIDGE fname: E.
