We will use the 6.0" finding aperture on the line_3: POL tube. An observation will be made every 6 months until line_4: the pulsar is detected. Each observation will be searched line_5: for pulsations using FFT methods. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: Remnant stars are known from presently available upper line_2: limits on most SNR central stars to be fainter than V = 20; line_3: HST is required for this proposal for the following reasons: line_4: (a) Scintillation does not contaminate the data and hence line_5: pulses in the remnant star will be easier to detect. line_6: (b) Smaller apertures can be used with HST minimizing line_7: the contamination from the background. line_8: (c) A long passband (1600-7000 A) can be used which will line_9: maximize the number of photons detected. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: The HSP wide bandwidth photometric observations of SN1987A line_2: will be analyzed by power spectrum analysis methods to line_3: determine if any pulsation exists (as it does in the Crab line_4: Nebula and 1E2259+586). Photometric observations will also line_5: be analyzed for longer periodicities which may be present line_6: in the light curve. The results will be applied to line_7: determining the location, geometry, and motion of the line_8: emitting regions. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: DOLAN fname: JOSEPH mi: F. category: CON inst: NASA, GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER addr_1: CODE 681 city: GREENBELT state: MD zip: 20771 country: USA phone: (301)286-5920 ! lname: BLESS fname: ROBERT mi: C. category: PI inst: WISCONSIN, UNIVERSITY OF addr_1: SPACE ASTRONOMY LAB. city: MADISON state: WI zip: 53706 country: USA ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: GSC9162.01072 descr_1: OFFSET TARGET FOR SN1987A pos_1: RA = 05H 35M 13.266S +/- 0.037S, pos_2: DEC = -69D 14' 35.315" +/- 0.2" equinox: 2000 comment_1: POSREF = TAYLOR. comment_2: POSREF FROM WEST, ET AL. comment_3: A & A 177.L1 (1987). fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V=12.52 ! targnum: 2 name_1: SN1987A descr_1: SUPERNOVA IN LMC pos_1: RA-OFF = 14.741S +/- 0.037S, pos_2: DEC-OFF = -96.318" +/- 0.2", pos_3: FROM 1 equinox: 2000 comment_1: POSREF = JDOLAN, comment_2: POSREF FROM GIRARD,VAN ALTENA comment_3: AND LOPEZ, ASTRON.
