This will for the first time enable the line_4: nuclear polarization to be measured free of Faraday rotation effects line_5: and allow firm limits on the strength of non-thermal emission versus line_6: a compact nuclear star cluster to be obtained. Within the jet, line_7: quantitative comparison with VLA flux and polarization measurements line_8: at the same resolution as the VLA data will provide stringent line_9: constraints for emission mechanism theories and on the physical line_10: nature of the jet. We also propose to determine the proper motion line_11: of the jet and to monitor the nucleus for variability in flux and line_12: polarization properties. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: MACCHETTO fname: FERDINANDO inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA esa: Y ! lname: SPARKS fname: WILLIAM title: DR. mi: B. inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! lname: BOKSENBERG fname: ALEC title: PROF. inst: ROYAL GREENWICH OBSERVATORY country: UNITED KINGDOM esa: Y ! lname: BIRETTA fname: JOHN title: DR. mi: A. inst: NATIONAL RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORY country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: FOC observations use 512x1024 unzoomed format to image whole jet line_2: centered at middle of jet oriented with jet along long axis.
