FOC long-slit spectroscopy line_5: of the core of M87 will yield an important estimate of line_6: the central mass concentration from the dynamical information line_7: present in the structure of the bright lines. With the line_8: knowledge that emission in the core of M87 is spatially line_9: confined the HST optical aberration does not confuse the line_10: observation proposed. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: MACCHETTO fname: F. In essence the orientation of a torus line_4: of material surrounding the active nucleus obscures our line_5: line of sight in the case of Seyfert 2 nuclei but not of line_6: Seyfert 1. An important prediction of these models is that line_7: any extended gas will be ionized preferentially in directions line_8: aligned with the minor axis of the torus. NGC 2992 and line_9: MKN3 are selected to explore the geometry and excitation line_10: of such extended nuclear emission. line_11: A particularly significant discovery has been the presence line_12: in the archetypal Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 of a Seyfert I line_13: spectrum with broad permitted lines exhibited in polarized line_14: light. This is interpreted as light from a hidden Seyfert I line_15: nucleus being reflected by electron scattering from within line_16: a hot plasma 'mirror' into our line of sight. FOC line_17: polarization images at high spatial resolution in the UV line_18: will localize such reflected radiation and increase its line_19: contrast against galaxy starlight. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: Analysis will be carried out at the RGO STARLINK node. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: Macchetto fname: Ferdinando title: Dr. category: PI inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE addr_1: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE city: BALTIMORE state: MD zip: 21218 country: USA phone: 410-338-4790 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: 3C236 name_2: 1003+351 descr_1: E,303,315,924 pos_1: RA = 10H 3M 05.37S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC = +35D 08' 48.1" +/- 1" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.0989 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N comment_1: PA=57.5D fluxval_1: V=15.97 ! targnum: 2 name_1: 3C277.3 name_2: COMA A, descr_1: E,303,315,924 pos_1: RA = 12H 51M 46.4S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC = +27D 53' 46" +/- 1" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.0857 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N comment_1: PA=165D fluxval_1: V=15.94 ! targnum: 3 name_1: 3C305 name_2: 1448+634 descr_1: E,303,315,924 pos_1: RA = 14H 48M 17.28S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC = +63D 28' 36.4" +/- 1" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.041 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N comment_1: PA=138D fluxval_1: V=13.74 ! targnum: 13 name_1: NGC4486 name_2: M87 descr_1: E,303,315,907 pos_1: RA = 12H 28M 17.59S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC = +12D 40' 01.78" +/- 0.1" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.004 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N plate_avail: N comment_1: GASP POSITION fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 8.7 +/- 0.3 ! targnum: 17 name_1: NGC1068 descr_1: E,301,312,318 pos_1: RA = 02H 40M 07.06S +/- 0.03S, pos_2: DEC = -00D 13' 31.46" +/- 0.05" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.0037 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N plate_avail: N comment_1: TOO BRIGHT FOR GASP fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 10.8 +/- 0.2 ! targnum: 19 name_1: MKN3 descr_1: E,301,312,315 pos_1: RA = 06H 09M 48.25S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC = +71D 03' 10.72" +/- 0.1" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.014 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N plate_avail: N comment_1: GASP MEASURE fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 13.3 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 21 name_1: NGC2992 descr_1: E,301,312 pos_1: RA = 09H 43M 18S +/- 0.5S, pos_2: DEC = -14D 05' 48" +/- 2" equinox: 1950 pm_or_par: N rv_or_z: Z=0.007 acqpr_1: EXT plate_req: N plate_avail: N comment_1: TOO BRIGHT FOR GASP fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 13.8 +/- 1 ! ! end of fixed targets !
