abstract:

line_1: This is a slightly modified version of the narrow band
line_2: calibration portion of proposal 1481. This proposal is to
line_3: obtain narrow band images of a diffuse emission line source
line_4: which has been well characterized from the ground. The
line_5: purpose of the test is to directly provide calibration of
line_6: these filters using a ~0 velocity emission line source, as
line_7: well as to provide data to test our ability to transfer a
line_8: stellar calibration of a narrow band filter to a line source.
line_9: Comparison with ground based imagery will also allow
line_10: determination of difference in spatial response between a
line_11: line source and a white light source.

  question: 2
    section: 0
    line_1:
line_4: Images of M-42 will be obtained through the set of the most
line_5: commonly used narrow band filters. By comparing these
line_6: images with ground-based spectrophotometry we will derive
line_7: an absolute calibration for these filters which is
line_8: independent of ST observations of standard stars,
line_9: thereby providing a check on our ability to calibrate
line_10: other narrow band filters using standard star data.
line_11: Comparison with ground based imagery will provide
line_12: a check on our narrow band flats.

    section: 1
    line_1:
line_9: A series of exposures using
line_10: narrow emission line filters is done on a calibrated target
line_11: to derive accurate emission line intensity calibrations in
line_12: the WFC. Short exposures through two broad band filters
line_13: will be used to subtract continuum emission from the narrow
line_14: band images. The WFC must be flooded and the flood
line_15: determined to be stable prior to these exposures.
