The morphology is a line_8: powerful indicator for the origin of the nebulae (e.g.mass loss, ejection). line_9: The chemical abundance ratios, notably the C/O ratio, in the nebulae are line_10: significant measures on the evolutionary state of the central stars. The FOC line_11: enables observations, also in the visible wavelength region, at a spatial line_12: resolution at least 100 times as high as has been posssible so far. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: DEHARVENG fname: J. mi: M. inst: CNRS, LABORATORY FOR SPACE ASTRONOMY country: FRANCE esa: X ! lname: BLADES fname: J. In all cases, there is no doubt that subsequent observations will line_6: be required to solve all related astrophysical problems that can be solved with line_7: ST regarding these objects. Only WR-ring nebulae and planetary nebulae with line_8: small angular size are proposed, as these are most compatible with the FOC line_9: field view. With small angular pixel size of the FOC, the expected cont rates line_10: per pixel are very low, so that in most cases the resolution will have to be line_11: lowered in order to get a resonable S/N ratio. line_13: The larger pixel size, the larger field of view and the higher transmittance of line_14: the broadband filters have led to the choice of f/48 observations for the short line_15: wavelength observations. line_17: The small planetary nebulae listed, are representatives of the class of line_18: planetary nebulae with OVI emission lines in the spectra of their central line_19: stars, thus having T > 50,000 K. line_21: The WR ring nebula is selected from the list of the WR ring nebulae by van der line_22: Hucht (1982, in: D'Odorico et al. Proc. ESO Workshop on "The Most Massive line_23: Stars", p. 157),on the basis of smallest apparent size.
