Two SO galaxies NGC 5102 and NGC line_4: 3115, at reasonable distance and with very different gas contents, line_5: have been selected. Observations through several filters line_6: (especially a far UV filter) will allow to resolve and study the line_7: massive stars, if they exist. The UV surface brightness of the line_8: unresolved background will be measured and will set constraints on line_9: the characteristics of hot evolved stars. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: ROCCA-VOLMERANGE fname: BRIGITTE inst: INSTITUTE OF ASTROPHYSICS, PARIS country: FRANCE esa: X ! lname: DEHARVENG fname: J. mi: M. inst: MARSEILLE OBSERVATORY country: FRANCE esa: X ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: following cycle2 observations it is proposed to observe line_2: NGC3115 with the F342W filter and NGC5102 with the F220W filter line_3: in order to get color information on the massive stars, if any. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: The high spatial resolution of the FOC will provide the possibility to resolve line_2: the young and massive stars, if they exist, in two examples of relatively line_3: nearby elliptical-type population. This capability is further improved by the line_4: good response of the FOC in the ultra-violet. At these wavelengths, the line_5: contrast of young and hot stars would be enhanced against the contribution of line_6: the main-sequence and giant-branch components of the old stellar population. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: we plan to use IRAF/STSDAS on workstations ! question: 9 section: 1 line_1: GTO program ID 1246 and cycle 2 observations on this program ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: DEHARVENG fname: J. mi: M. category: PI inst: LABORATOIRE ASTRONOMIE SPATIALE addr_1: C.N.R.S. addr_2: TRAVERSE DU SIPHON addr_3: LE TROIS LUCS city: BP8-13376 MARSEILLE CEDEX12 country: FRANCE phone: (33) 91 05 59 17 telex: 420584F ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: NGC5102 descr_1: E,302 pos_1: RA=13H 21M 57.5S +/- 4", pos_2: DEC=-36D 37' 49" +/- 4" equinox: 2000 rv_or_z: V=454 acqpr_1: EXT fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: SURF(V)=17.5 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: V=25.2, TYPE=B1V ! targnum: 2 name_1: NGC3115 descr_1: E,302 pos_1: RA=10H 05M 14.2S +/- 4", pos_2: DEC=-7D 43' 5" +/- 4" equinox: 2000 rv_or_z: V=698 acqpr_1: EXT fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V=25.7, TYPE=B1V ! ! end of fixed targets !
