This phenomenon may be a line_3: precursor to more dramatic activity powered by the evolutionary endproducts of line_4: millions of high mass stars. Multiband images obtained with the Wide Field line_5: Camera will be used to invesitgate the location, size, structure, colors and line_6: luminosity of the starburst region. Ultraviolet spectroscopy with the High line_7: Resolution Spectrograph will provide direct insight into the nature of the hot line_8: stars. Interstellar gas in the target galaxy, and in or near the Milky Way line_9: will be probed by high resolution observations of selected absorption lines. line_10: This prop contains only the cycle 1 exposures. line_11: It was updated February 08, 1991 ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: BALZANO fname: VICKI inst: COMPUTER SCIENCE CORPORATION country: USA ! lname: EBBETS fname: DENNIS mi: C. inst: BALL AEROSPACE CORPORATION country: USA ! lname: SHARA fname: MIKE inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: GHRS G140L spectroscopy of the nucleus of NGC7714 will line_2: be done in cycle 1. Three carrousel positions will allow line_3: the spectral region 1157 - 1867 to be recorded. The line_4: central wavelengths are 1300, 1525 and 1725 A. Step line_5: pattern 2 with default comb, standard fpsplit, and two line_6: repeats will be used. Each carrousel position will have line_7: a total of 40 minutes of exposure time, divided equally line_8: into 4 fpsplit subexposures and 2 repeats, for a total line_10: of eight 5 minute subexposures. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: The WFC exposures of NGC 7714 will have been taken in line_2: cycle 0. IUE spectra in the HRS 'GTOCAT' data base were line_3: used to estimate N2 acquisition count rates. The same IUE line_4: spectra were used with the BD+75d325 calibration curve line_5: for G140L to make better estimates of the expected count line_6: rates. I expect a peak count rate of about 0.7 cts/diode/sec line_7: near 1350 A. The long wavelength cutoff at 1867 should be line_8: very close to the dark count limit of 0.01 cts/diode/sec. ! question: 13 section: 1 line_1: The star formation regions in galaxies with starburst nuclei will be studied line_2: with narrow band imagery obtained with the Wide Field Camera, and ultraviolet line_3: spectroscoy observed with the High Resolution Spectrograph. Images will be line_4: obtained in the Ultraviolet, in standard U, B, V and R band passes, and through line_5: appropriate H Alpha filters. Spectroscopy with a resolving power near 2000 and line_6: signal to noise ratio of 25 will be obtained in the 1200 to 1800A region. The line_7: size, morphology, environment, stellar content and luminosity of the starburst line_8: regions will be studied. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: EBBETS fname: DENNIS mi: C. category: PI inst: BALL AEROSPACE CORPORATION ! lname: SHARA fname: MIKE category: CON inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE addr_1: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE addr_2: HOMEWOOD CAMPUS city: BALTIMORE state: MD zip: 21218 country: USA phone: (301) 338-4743 telex: 6849101 ! lname: BALZANO fname: VICKI category: CON inst: COMPUTER SCIENCE CORPORATION addr_1: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE addr_2: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE addr_3: HOMEWOOD CAMPUS city: BALTIMORE state: MD zip: 21218 country: USA phone: (301) 338-4736 telex: 6849101 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: NGC7714 descr_1: SPIRAL GALAXY pos_1: RA = 23H 36M 14.303S+/-0.1", pos_2: DEC = +02D 09' 17.38"+/-0.1" equinox: J2000 pm_or_par: NO rv_or_z: Z=.0096 plate_req: NO plate_avail: NO comment_1: ALL COORDINATES MEASURED BY comment_2: ARCHIE WARNOCK USING GASP comment_3: FLUXES FROM 'GTOCAT' REC 334 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V=13.1 +/- 0.5 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: F(1300)=4.2 E-14 fluxnum_3: 3 fluxval_3: F(1525)=4.5 E-14 fluxnum_4: 4 fluxval_4: F(1725)=3.7 E-14 ! ! end of fixed targets !
