abstract:

line_1: Column densities of interstellar atoms of some ten atomic
line_2: species will be measured in the line of sight an
line_3: early-type star, using the High-Resolution Spectrograph to
line_4: obtain precise measures in the ultraviolet with highest
line_5: spectral resolution. These data will be analyzed to determine
line_6: relative abundances in the several individual clouds present
line_7: along each line of sight, and thus to determine how the
line_8: composition of the gas in such clouds varies with cloud
line_9: parameters such as H column density, velocity, ionization
line_10: level and distance z from the galactic plane. This
line_11: information should help to clarify the equilibrium between
line_12: gas and grains,--i.e., how the gas condenses on the grains
line_13: and how the grains are destroyed by a variety of phenomena
    line_14: occurring in interstellar clouds.
