These effects will limit line_5: the ultimate S/N achievable, and will make precise measurements line_6: of weak and narrow features difficult. The internal flat field line_7: lamps may be useful to some extent, but their monochromatic line_8: spectrum (lamda=1470 A) and direct optical path combine to line_9: illuminate the detectors differently than a stellar source. Since line_10: the variations are small - a few percent RMS - good photon line_11: statistics are required, on the order of 1X10E5 cts/diode.
