The test will be carried out by obtaining exposures of both line_4: dense point-source fields in globular clusters and faint extended low line_5: surface-brightness galaxies. The chosen targets are distributed around the sky line_6: such as to sample an adequate range of viewing conditions. Furthermore, since line_7: we have ground-based data for the targets obtained with an engineering model of line_8: the FOC detectors, a quantitative eveluation of the actual instrument line_9: performance will be carried out. The information gained through this last OV line_10: activity will be crucial for the whole of the SV program. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: LAURANCE fname: R. mi: J. inst: ESA/FOC country: HOLLAND esa: X ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 0 line_1: Two 30-minute exposures, each using a different filter, will be taken of line_2: each of three targets that are widely distributed around the sky. one of the line_3: selected targets is a dense-point source field, and two targets are extended line_4: low surface-brightness galaxies. The distribution of targets in RA and DEC will line_5: sample the range of viewing conditions required for an initial assessment of line_6: the scattered light characteristics of the FOC and ST. It is expected that one line_7: or more of the targets may experience severe scattered light conditions, line_8: irrespective of launch date. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: The proposed observation is required to verify the scattered light line_2: characteristics of the FOC and ST versus bright object avoidance angles. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: FOC013, the f/96 focussing procedure, must have been successfully completed line_2: prior to initiating FOC014. line_4: All observations must be taken either entirely in day or entirely at night. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: LAURANCE fname: ROBIN mi: J. category: PI inst: ESA/ESTEC addr_1: POSTBUS 299 addr_3: NL-2200AG city: NOORDWIJK country: HOLLAND phone: 31-1719-83516 telex: 39098 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 3 name_1: M79 descr_1: RICH POINT-SOURCE FIELD pos_1: RA=05H 22M 07.4S, pos_2: DEC=-24D 34M 08S equinox: 1950 ! targnum: 4 name_1: 5C7.220 descr_1: FAINT EXTENDED SOURCE pos_1: RA=08H 20M 52.1S, pos_2: DEC=+28D 16M 01S equinox: ^ ! targnum: 5 name_1: 5C6.142 descr_1: ^ pos_1: RA=02H 13M 43.5S, pos_2: DEC=+32D 36M 57S equinox: ^ ! ! end of fixed targets !
