The dark measurements will be line_3: obtained with a variety of SIs prime, to test for any EMI line_4: problems. line_6: This program has a low priority compared with other OV activities, and is a line_7: precursor to SV programs I3. line_8: REVISED 12/5/89 AS PER PROPOSER REQUEST. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: ANGEL fname: ROGER inst: UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA country: USA ! lname: MARGON fname: BRUCE inst: UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON country: USA ! lname: BARTKO fname: FRANK inst: MARTIN MARIETTA CORPORATION country: USA ! lname: DAVIDSEN fname: ARTHUR inst: JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY country: USA ! lname: BOHLIN fname: RALPH inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! lname: FORD fname: HOLLAND inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! lname: HARMS fname: RICHARD inst: APPLIED RESEARCH CORPORATION country: USA ! lname: BURBIDGE fname: E. mi: M. inst: UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO country: USA ! lname: BEAVER fname: EDWARD inst: UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO country: USA ! lname: BAITY fname: BILL title: P.I. inst: UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: In this test, we will obtain data on the dark backgrounds. line_2: Dark measurements will be obtained using both detectors. line_3: Data will be obtained with a variety of SIs prime, to test line_4: for an EMI problems. The observations will be repeated as line_5: often as possible. line_7: Although the DARK measurements will be used to determine the line_8: average level of dark counts to subtract from the science line_9: data, the primary purpose of the OV DARKs is to determine line_10: which FOS channels should be disabled. It is clear that all line_11: channels which exceed spec continually or intermittently line_12: should be turned off. Even though we have much information line_13: from ground-based tests, those data, taken at room line_14: temperature, may have listed as good channels some which will line_15: be bad at operating temperatures. There may also be channels line_16: which are noisy on the ground that will be good under line_17: operating conditions. ! question: 3 section: 2 line_1: The channels could improve either because the temperature is line_2: lower or because the (intermittent) noise was due to line_3: interference from something in the enviornment which will not line_4: be present on orbit. For this reason, all channels should be line_5: enabled for these DARK observations. Because of the line_6: intermittent nature of the noise in the channels (some bad line_7: channels showed up in only one or two of 10-20 darks), it is line_8: imperative to have as many DARKs as possible in OV. line_10: The parameters specified for the DARK exposures should result line_11: in the following values for FOS parameters: line_13: livetime = 0.500 line_14: deadtime = 0.010 line_15: ints = 40 line_16: patterns = 1 line_18: The photocathode will be sampled at half-diode-height line_19: intervals over the YBASE range from -1472 to +1472, which line_20: encompasses all normal science image locations. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: All observations are parallel. line_3: Schedule this proposal at leat 4D after 2188, FOS-OV 062/072, line_4: Fine Y-base measurements. line_6: If any observations are scheduled earlier than 4D after prop line_7: 2748 - SAA Dark Measurements, then the observations MUST line_8: occur in non-SAA impacted orbits. If the observatins are line_9: scheduled after 2748, there are no restrictions. ! question: 6 section: 1 line_1: This test is not stray light sensitive. 8 hours of observation is internal line_2: dark measurements. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: Data reduction will be performed at the ST ScI, and the analysis will be line_2: performed using FOS IDT computer facilities. Although this is a calibration, line_3: no data will need to be added to the PODPS pipeline. ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: Data analysis, research assistant support, and funding will be provided under line_2: NASA's FOS GTO contract(s). ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: BAITY fname: BILL category: PI inst: U.C., SAN DIEGO addr_1: CASS DEPARTMENT, C-011 city: LA JOLLA state: CA zip: 92093 country: USA phone: (619) 534-3209 ! ! end of general_form_address records !
