This will be limited to UBV in f/96, UB in f/48 and line_3: will include the F275W Filter in f/96 and f/48. The calibration of the UV line_4: (F275W) filter will not be done to the same level of precision as the other line_5: filters. F/288 will be tested only in relation to f/96. line_11: It is, nevertheless, one of the most important calibrations. It is a basic line_12: requirement for a successful imaging device to be able to yield accurate line_13: magnitudes on a universally-accepted system. These observations will be line_14: analyzed using photometry software packages. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: BLADES fname: J. title: DR. mi: C. inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE country: USA ! lname: CRANE fname: PHILIPPE inst: EUROPEAN SOUTHERN OBSERVATORY country: WEST GERMANY ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: In order to do photometry with the FOC, it is necessary to calibrate the line_2: filters against standard stars with known magnitudes in the standard filter line_3: systems available on the FOC. Also, the FOC calibration should not be the line_4: limiting factor for typical observations. Therefore, a precision of 5% should line_5: be the target for these calibrations. line_7: f/96 has U, B, and V type filters available and all three will be calibrated. line_8: An additional UV filter will also be used (F275W). line_10: f/48 has only the U and B filters to be calibrated as well as the F275W filter. line_12: f/288 will undoubtedly have chromatic aberrations and will probably not be used line_13: with filters longward of 3500A or for much photometry of this sort. Since this line_14: is the case, it is proposed to drop this calibration except to make a quick line_15: check with the UV filter. line_17: We need a field with both blue and red stars. We assume two pointings are line_18: needed to get the appropriate range of color to determine the color line_19: coefficients. These two pointings are given in the exposure log sheet. line_21: For f/48, we assume that we have twice as many stars and hence we can arrive at line_22: the same level of precision in roughly half the time. ! question: 3 section: 2 line_1: It is assumed that the calibration fields will provide the following: line_3: red field >= 4 objects of f/96 11 x 11 arcsec field line_4: with V ~= 22, B-V ~= 1.0 line_5: >= 9 objects at f/48 line_7: blue field >= 4 objects at f/96 with V~=22, B-V ~= 0.0 line_8: >= 9 objects at f/48 line_10: The filters needed are F96 U, B, V and F275W line_11: F48 U, B line_12: F288 F275W. line_14: These observations require the FOC linearity test to have been done previously line_15: and to show that the counting rates are in the linear range! line_17: All observations are in the SV delta plan. ! question: 5 section: 0 line_1: Prerequisities: this test must be done towards the end of the SV period when line_2: the preformance of the FOC is understood; FOC-03 (1507-FOC Optical Focus), line_3: FOC-04 (1508-FOC Point Source Linearity), FOC-06 (1511-FOC Absolute Sensitivity line_4: f/96 Relay). ! question: 6 section: 0 line_1: This test is stray light sensitive with an allowable background of 21 line_2: m(v)/arcsec(2). ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: BLADES fname: J. mi: C. title: DR. inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE addr_1: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE city: BALTIMORE state: MD zip: 21218 country: USA phone: 301-338-4805 telex: 684-9101-STSCI ! lname: CRANE fname: PHILIPPE title: DR. category: PI inst: EUROPEAN SOUTHERN OBSERVATORY addr_1: KARL-SCHWARZSCHILD-STRASSE 2 city: D-8046 GARCHING country: WEST GERMANY phone: (49-89)32006-230 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: NGC104-R descr_1: 47 TUC pos_1: RA=00H 20M 20.91S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC=-72D 04' 53.9" +/- 1", pos_3: PLATE-ID=0024 equinox: 2000 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: B=22 +/- 3 ! targnum: 2 name_1: NGC104-B descr_1: 47 TUC pos_1: RA=00H 20M 20.68S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC=-72D 04' 58.2" +/- 1", pos_3: PLATE-ID=0024 equinox: 2000 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: B= 22 +/- 3 ! ! end of fixed targets !
