abstract:

    line_1:        The relative pixel-to-pixel response with wavelength of the FOC
    line_2:        over the entire field of view will be measured using the daylit
    line_3:        Earth and the Orion Nebula as the UV flat fields. The earth flat
    line_4:        fields can be accomplished in parallel with any other instrument.
    line_5:        The Orion Nebula will require dedicated time and ST slews. The
    line_6:        data are required to update the FOC photometric files used in SOGS
    line_7:        pipeline processing. This test is related to FOC Relative Calibration
    line_8:        (Prop 1516) which provides the optical flat fields using the onboard
    line_9:        LED's.
    line_11:       This proposal requires the use of 4 filters in a single exposure in lines
    line_12:       1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.7. Currently overruns PEP field length. See comments.

    line_1:        Before any meaningful imaging science can be accomplished, the
    line_2:        FOC has to be flat fielded to at least 3% accuracy in order to
    line_3:        remove the instrument signature. Since the pixel to pixel variations
    line_4:        vary only slowly with wavelength, this calib needs to be performed
    line_5:        in small no. of UV filter wavelengths chosen to cover uniformly
    line_6:        the UV response range of the FOC. The only inherently flat field
    line_7:        for the FOC is the Lyman alpha geocoronal emission pattern and,
    line_8:        possibly, certain regions of the Orion Nebula near the Trapezium
    line_9:        (the inner nebula). The daylit earth can be used together with
    line_10:       the automatic SC scan across the disk and only for the F/96 due
    line_11:       to its red leak suppressing capabilities. The inner regions of
    line_12:       the Orion Nebula will be explored systematically for their
    line_13:       suitability in terms of signal and uniformity before the long
    line_14:       duration scans are undertaken. Ground-based calibration images
    line_15:       do exist.
    line_16:       In parallel time, the sunlit earth will be used to generate an
    line_17:       F/96 flat field at 3400 and 2400 A. Total time for this program
    line_18:       is 5.6 hours.
    line_19:       In prime time, twelve exposures of a region in the inner nebula
    line_20:       will be obtained with the F/48 camera in the 512 x 1024 format
    line_21:       in order to assess the expected count rates and field uniformity.
    line_22:       Total time for this part is 2 hours.
