abstract:

line_1: This engineering test is performed to determine
line_2: the linearity and noise properties of all eight WFPC detectors
line_3: Tests to characterize quantum efficiency hysteresis
line_4: are performed. Images through the five most used emission
line_5: line filters will be taken to verify ground based calibrations.
line_6: This test must be done after TECs turned on.
line_8: EXPOSURE LINES 7 AND 16 CHANGED FROM NON-INT TO NO GAP BECAUSE OF
    line_9: TRANS ERRORS.

  question: 2
    section: 0
line_1: These on-orbit tests are necessary to determine the
line_2: linearity and noise response of the WF/PC detectors. Quantum
line_3: efficiency hysteresis is also measured.
line_4: Images of M-42 will be obtained through the set of the most
line_5: commonly used narrow band filters. By comparing these
line_6: images with ground-based spectrophotometry we will derive
line_7: an absolute calibration for these filters which is
line_8: independent of ST observations of standard stars,
line_9: thereby providing a check on our ability to calibrate
line_10: other narrow band filters using standard star data.
line_11: Comparison with ground based imagery will provide
line_12: a check on our narrow band flats.

  question: 3
    section: 1
line_1: Filter F555W will be selected, and two bias frames taken.
line_2: A sequence of 5 observations of one target follows, during
line_3: which exposures are taken of increasing duration.
line_4: This is followed by a QEH measurement
line_5: consisting of three rapid exposures using F439W, a wait of
line_6: 20 minutes, and two subsequent rapid exposures. The test
line_7: is performed for both the WFC and the PC; however, the
line_8: exposures for the PC sequence are approximately five times
line_9: the duration of those for the WFC sequence. A series of exposures using
line_10: narrow emission line filters is done on this same target to
line_11: derive accurate emission line intensity calibrations in the WFC.
line_12: TECs must be on and the CCDs as cold as -80.
