abstract:

line_1: The goal of this procedure is to determine the positional offsets produced by
line_2: the FGS filters, and to determine any distortions produced by the individual
line_3: filters. Values of these parameters will be entered into the STScI database
line_4: for SDAS reduction of FGS data.

  question: 2
    section: 1
line_1: Many astrometric observations require the use of filters other than the
line_2: "yellow" filter. In some cases the filters will be changed between settings on
line_3: the stars in the same field. Therefore, the effects as a function of position
line_4: for different filters must be known.

!

  question: 3
    section: 1
    line_1:
line_2: 1) Position ST so that there are 6-9 stars in FGS 3 in the
    line_3: appropriate magnitude range.
line_4: 2) Using PUPIL, scan stars to certify singularity. This may be done before or
    line_5: after the POS mode.
line_6: 3) measure 6-9 stars in POS mode, with filter PUPIL.
    line_7: 4) Change filter to F583W. 5) Repeat step 3 with F583W.
    line_8: 6) Change filter to F605W.
    line_10: 7) Repeat step 3 using F605W
    line_11: 8) Change filter to F5ND.
    line_12: 9) Repeat step 3 using F5ND.
    line_13: 10) Change filter to F550W
    line_14: 11) Repeat step 2 using F550W
line_17: Note: As with AST-02 (Proposals 1567-9) the number of stars
line_18: actually in the FGS FOV is a function of date and HST
line_19: orientation. Only those stars in the FOV are to be observed.

!

  question: 4
    section: 1
line_1: GB observations are only good to .01 arcsec at best; we need
line_2: 6-9 stars in magnitude range of overlap between ALL filters.

!

  question: 5
    section: 1
    line_1: SV PREREQUISITES:
    line_3: NONE

!

  question: 7
    section: 1
line_1: ADRS within SDAS will be used to analyse the data, in particular to fit the
line_2: data from one filter-FGS to the "yellow" filter data for that FGS. AST-SV-2
line_3: will produce the distortion coefficients for each FGS-yellow filter position.
line_4: The data will be fit with increasing order polynomials until the 0.002 arcsec
line_5: rms residual level is reached. The simplest model (constant offset) will be
line_6: assumed to start. The terms, and their derived values, for each filter will be
line_7: part of the data bases accessable to reduction procedures.
line_8: This proposal depends on AST_OV-3 and AST_OV_4. The
line_9: results will be incorporated in the CDB to be used by SDAS
line_10: to hold parameters used in the reductions for differences
    line_11: between filters.

!

  question: 8
    section: 1
line_1: All FGS numbers refer to BAY numbers.

!

  question: 10
    section: 1
line_1: ADRS will be available in Austin to reduce and analyse the data. Some AST
line_2: personnel will be available at STScI or GSFC during SV in support of this test.
