This is an line_3: essential calibration procedure which must be done in order to properly observe line_4: with the HSP. By comparing the derived aperture positions with those from line_5: ground-testing, any systematic shifts of the projected aperture pattern can be line_6: ascertained. Secondly, the focus currents will be tested to ensure that the line_7: beam itself is properly focussed. ! question: 3 section: 1 line_1: The observations consist of illuminating the aperture plates of each line_2: IDT, using the bright earth, and performing an IDT area scan of all line_3: filter strips and selected apertures. During the first three orbits only line_4: preliminary scans of the VIS IDT will be done, which will not only allow line_5: the HSP temperature to stablilize, but will allow us to watch the behavior of line_6: the aperture pattern as the HSP temperature changes. For each of these three line_7: orbits, 12 X 80 pixel area scans of three filter strips (F160LP, F551W, and line_8: F620W) will be done with 0.4 arcsec steps and both 10 msec and 100 msec line_9: integration times. Both 1.0 arcsec apertures on each of these filter strips line_10: will be imaged using 20 X 20 pixel area scans with 0.1 arcsec steps and both line_11: 10 msec and 100 msec integration times. The ordering will attempt to line_12: minimize the overhead time due to slews. line_14: After the three stabilization orbits, the main part of the test will be line_15: done. Again using the bright earth for illumination, IDT of all filter line_16: strips and selected apertures will be performed. The scan of the filter line_17: strips will be 12 X 80 pixels in size, taken at 0.4 arcsec steps, with line_18: a sample time of 10 msec. A 20 X 20 step area scan using 0.6 arcsec steps, line_19: each with 10 msec integration times, will be made over the finding line_20: apertures.
