All of the first epoch observations will be made in the parallel mode with line_5: the Wide Field or Planetary Camera in cases where the primary observation is at line_6: least as long as 45 minutes. This exposure time will enable us to obtain a 20 line_7: minute exposure in both the V and R passbands. We plan to repeat the line_8: observations after a time interval of five years, which should yield proper line_9: motions with an accuracy of 0.0002 "/yr, or 9.5 km/sec at a distance of 10 kpc. line_10: Since the local velocity dispersion perpendicular to the galatic plane is line_11: about 30 km/sec, we should be able to accurately study the z-motions of stars line_12: from the galactic center out to the outer edge of the Galaxy. The result of line_13: this analysis will be a determination of th mass density in the disk of the line_14: Galaxy over an area of about 3x10dex-8 pc2.
