abstract:

    line_1:        We propose to survey a set of fields at different galactic latitudes to look
    line_2:        for new classes of object and to gather statistical data on the frequency and
    line_3:        forms of UV emission in the general background population of stars and
    line_4:        galaxies. The FOC at f/48 will be used with the FAR-UV Objective prism and a
    line_5:        broad UV filter to allow low resolution spectra to be taken. The FOC has
    line_6:        excellent dark current and the sky in the UV is dark, allowing spectra to be
    line_7:        obtained for numbers of objects at very faint levels indeed.
