The optical continuum images will also be used to determine the exact line_6: position of the nucleus for later acquisition. This will be followed by line_7: imaging in the ultraviolet [C III] 1908 and CIV 1549 emission line line_8: doublets. line_9: These images should resolve the narrow line region and the transition zone line_10: between the narrow and broad line regions. Prime targets for special study are line_11: NGC4486, NGC4151, NGC1068 and 3C273. Roll deconvolution in the ultraviolet line_12: will be done for these objects using the F/288 mode. To achieve the highest resolution it is necessary to line_3: resolve the interference fine structure (speckles) in the telescope point line_4: spread function. Only the f/288 mode of the FOC can achieve this at short UV line_5: wavelengths since the speckle size at a wavelength of 200 nm is about 0.02". line_6: The pixel size at f/288 is 0.007", i.e. 3 x 3 pixels per speckle which is line_7: sufficient for an adequate sampling. Short UV wavelengths are advantageous line_8: because of the high resolution theoretically possible. line_10: Both direct imaging and spectroscopic observations are required. Filter and line_11: objective prism images will be obtained in selective emission lines.
